About

I lead teams. And I help leaders get the best out of theirs.

I'm Mattias. I've led teams for more than 20 years, and I use the same approach with my own team as with the leaders I work with.

Twenty years of leading teams

I've led teams since 2002. At L'Oréal. As General Manager at Red Bull. As CMO at Peak Performance. As VP Marketing and Sales at Swedish Match. Today I'm CEO of a Swedish scale-up.

I've had brilliant teams and difficult ones. I've got things wrong, and learned from it. The biggest lesson is simple, and hard to live by: great people don't automatically make a great team.

It started in my own teams.

I first used strengths with my own team at Red Bull, in 2006. It changed how we worked together, so I kept doing it, team after team. In 2015 I became a Gallup-certified coach. At Swedish Match I brought it into my own team again. Other managers noticed and asked for the same. Then my leadership team. Then corporate management. In the end, strengths became part of the culture and HR strategy of a company with more than 2,000 employees in four countries, from sales to manufacturing and R&D. Together with HR, I built the train-the-trainer modules that took it to more than 100 managers.

Since then

I've worked with more than 50 teams and 500 people in my own workshops: leadership teams in the middle of an acquisition, marketing and sales teams, key account teams, supply chain and divisional management groups. I've worked with CliftonStrengths since 2006, and have been a Gallup-certified coach since 2015.

Why I do this

I believe all business is about people. Today, maybe more than ever.

Every company has to innovate to stay competitive. The easy answer is more pressure. It doesn't work. I've felt it myself: a few years ago I learned first-hand what stress does to a leader, and to everyone around them. I stepped back, rebuilt my foundations, and came back convinced. The answer isn't more pressure. It's better leadership.

Leaders can be the difference between winning and losing. And between joy and despair. I want to help more leaders build teams that win, and enjoy getting there.

I still lead a team every day, as CEO of a Swedish scale-up. So none of this is theory. I use it every week, and I'm still learning.

“Mattias understands both the business and the people. He got our leadership team and my team focused on what each of us does best, and we worked better together and delivered more.”
